CACAO wählt vitagroup als Partner für openEHR
Collaboration strengthens the open, scalable information infrastructure behind new healthcare solutions and networked care
A strategic partnership to strengthen CACAO’s technology
CACAO and vitagroup are entering into a strategic partnership to further strengthen CACAO’s technological foundation. An important reason for this is vitagroup’s extensive international experience with openEHR. This expertise gives CACAO the ability to take the next steps toward an open, scalable and future-proof information infrastructure for healthcare.
Networked care requires open standards
For CACAO, this is more than a technological choice. Healthcare is increasingly moving from organisation-centred processes to collaboration within networks, where data availability, interoperability and flexibility are non-negotiable. openEHR plays an important role in this shift. The open standard is essential for making healthcare data available in a sustainable, reusable and structured way for the lifetime of the patient.
“CACAO focuses on networked care in which the citizen is at the centre and healthcare organisations collaborate across organisational and system boundaries in the citizen’s lifelong care record. This requires an open standard for storing healthcare-related information. That standard is openEHR,” says Freek Erens, Product Manager CACAO.

An experienced international partner
With vitagroup, CACAO is deliberately choosing a partner that not only understands this development, but has also demonstrably built up international experience in this area. vitagroup has extensive expertise in large-scale openEHR environments and open, vendor-neutral technology for healthcare data. This proven experience is of great value to CACAO: it makes it possible to build more quickly on what is already working elsewhere and translate that knowledge into Dutch healthcare practice.
This delivers more than just technological reinforcement. By building new solutions on open standards such as openEHR, there is more room to implement use cases more quickly, develop in a more innovation-driven way and better meet the needs of different care networks and healthcare organisations.
“We are proud that CACAO will be using our Health Intelligence Platform (HIP). With CACAO, we have an innovative partner to introduce our openEHR technology to the Dutch market, and we look forward to a successful collaboration,” says Ron Klaassen, Business Development Nordics, Benelux and Baltics, vitagroup.

The benefits for healthcare organisations and regions
This partnership helps organisations and regions to be better prepared for future developments in healthcare. An open and standardised approach to healthcare data makes it easier to keep data sustainably available, support collaboration across system and organisational boundaries, and add new applications more quickly without having to revise the underlying setup each time.
CACAO has several strategic partnerships with suppliers. KPN Health is a partner for generic functions, such as authentication, authorisation, localisation and consent, as well as for data availability: unlocking data from source systems to create a 360-degree view of the citizen. Adapcare, with Pluriform Zorg, is the supplier of a source system and also a partner for the administrative handling of networked care. CACAO is in talks with various suppliers about adding plug-ins to the CACAO platform.
