Milestone in the Establishment of the Clinical Data Platform in Catalonia
On November 30, together with our partners, we achieved a crucial milestone in the pioneering project in Catalonia: Our HIP Clinical Data Repository (HIP CDR) transitioned into the production stage.

Data availability across borders
The system, which will be serving the entire Catalan population, epitomizes the commitment to providing top-notch, universally accessible healthcare by ensuring data liquidity across boundaries. This enables the construction of the new integrated, patient-centered electronic health record, thus improving healthcare in Catalonia. The model of an open platform, based on the international openEHR standard, is a huge leap towards a more integrated and efficient healthcare system, according to Dr. Piera Jiménez.
Next phase launched: “ monumental step in data harmonisation and utilisation“
The next phase now includes the integration of historical data and thus the migration of Catalonia’s shared Electronic Health Record to the new technological standard. By archetyping and uploading more than 146 million vaccination records that were previously in CDA format into openEHR, the technology will be tested. ” This integration represents a monumental step in data harmonisation and utilisation,” writes Dr. Jordi Piera Jiménez.
By May 2024, the infrastructure of the Clinical Data Repository will offer full redundancy, ensuring robust, reliable and future-proof access to important health data.
“The CDR not only streamlines healthcare data management but also paves the way for innovative healthcare solutions. By providing a standardized, open platform, it enables developers and healthcare professionals to collaboratively create and implement cutting-edge applications and services, driving forward the future of personalized and efficient healthcare. From now on, all our new developments will run on the platform,” writes the Director of the Office for Digital Health Strategy in Catalonia.
