12 hospitals in Saarland set up patient portal based on vitagroup HIP
From the end of 2025, patients of 12 hospitals in the German state of Saarland will be able to virtually exchange data and information with their hospital via a joint patient portal. The patient portal is provided by our partner PLANFOX and is based on vitagroup’s Health Intelligence Platform.
Making appointments online, submit important data and documents prior admission, conducting a digital anamnesis or exchanging messages with clinic staff and finding out about the status of their own treatment – this is what the future portal offers patients in Saarland. For this purpose, twelve hospitals in Saarland have joined forces under the leadership of the Saarländische Krankenhausgesellschaft e.V. (Saarland hospital association, SKG).
The Health Intelligence Platform – for highly secure, loss-free and interoperable data exchange
The vitagroup Health Intelligence Platform (HIP) provides the database for this project. HIP, the open data platform for healthcare institutions, not only enables highly secure, loss-free and interoperable data exchange between patients and clinics, but also allows clinics to easily exchange and provide each other with treatment information in the event of a patient transfer. This is only possible with the patient’s consent.
As the project progresses, patients will also be able to share their health data directly with other doctors providing follow-up care, e.g. after inpatient treatment. The patient portal will be accessible as an app via smartphones and the web.
A strong partnership for a pioneering digitalisation project
On 1 October 2024, the starting signal was given for the implementation of the project with all project participants: the patient portal solution will be provided by PLANFOX. With the Health Intelligence Platform (HIP), vitagroup provides the data basis for the digital ecosystem. VAMED contributes integration services. On the SKG side, the consultancy Digital Avantgarde is setting up the central project management office.
“We are very much looking forward to working with SKG and our partners PLANFOX and VAMED,” says Joachim Neugebauer, Vice President Clinical Care Solutions at vitagroup. “A cross-location patient portal makes perfect sense. It allows direct patient involvement and the use of our Health Intelligence Platform enables the availability and exchange of data between hospitals.”
